BIRMINGHAM, AL –Culinard will host the finals of the high school Teen Cuisine cooking competition Friday, October 27 at Culinard’s campus in Homewood. Two teams – Bob Jones High School from Huntsville and Auburn High School - will compete in the Iron Chef-like cooking competition.

A panel made up of several well-known Birmingham chefs including George Reese of Ocean and 26, Chris Dupont of Café Dupont and Frank Sekyra of Birmingham Country Club, as well as Craig Stamps of Publix and an Alabama Culinary Federation Representative, will judge the competition.

“Culinard is privileged to host this event for aspiring chefs,” says Chef Antony Osborne, Dean of Culinard. “Our hope is that Teen Cuisine will influence a younger generation and excite them about a potential future in the culinary arts and that the event will only gain popularity throughout the state in years to come.”

The two teams were chosen out of the following eight semi-finalist teams in May: Indian Springs, Mountain Brook, Wenonah, Auburn, Huntsville Tech, Limestone County Career Tech, Bob Jones and Brewer.

Bob Jones’ and Auburn’s participating finalist teams will consist of three members and one alternate; these teams will prepare one starter, one entrée and one dessert based on an ingredient list supplied to the students prior to the competition. Three secret ingredients will be revealed to the teams the day of the competition; one secret ingredient must be incorporated into each course. All items will be judged on the menu composition; sanitation and grooming; food presentation (creativity, taste and temperature); professional techniques and knife safety, and work ethic/teamwork.
