Virginia College Therapeutic Massage Students Getting Sports Focused

Nov 2, 2010

Students in the Therapeutic Massage program at Virginia College in Montgomery are getting hands-on experience treating athletes and weekend warriors in the Montgomery area.

The program recently partnered with the LPGA to provide massage services to the golfers, staff and spectators at the 2010 Navistar Classic held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Resort in Prattville, Alabama.

The four-day event drew over 50,000 spectators and was televised nationally. Because of the large number of clients, students from Virginia College in Augusta joined in for the event.

The Virginia College in Montgomery massage students also turned out in force earlier in October to provide sports massage services to some of the 2,000 runners in the Hyundai Half Marathon. A longer-term partnership has been inked with the Athletic Department at Tuskegee University to provide pre-game sports massage services to the members of the 2010 football team and staff.

Students in the Therapeutic Massage program on 12 of Virginia College's campuses nationwide receive year-round, practical experience at the Virginia College Center for Therapeutic Massage, which is open to the public.
