Jacksonville and Chattanooga Campuses Celebrate Veteran's Day

Nov 19, 2010

Several campuses in the Virginia College system celebrated Veterans Day 2010, including those in Jacksonville, FL and Chattanooga, TN.

The student chapter of the Jacksonville Veterans Society of Virginia College (VSVC) hosted a Veterans Day celebration on campus to honor military students, their spouses, and dependents. The celebration included a presentation of colors and a challenge coin presentation by Campus President Jack Clark to pending graduates who are military-affiliated. Chaplain Lieutenant H.K. Chan-Williams, USN, was the guest speaker at the celebration.

Veterans Society members Franc Deal and Sarah Eleazer (both students in the Surgical Technology program) were instrumental in organizing the event.

Employees and students who served in the military were also honored at Virginia College School of Business and Health in Chattanooga. Academic Dean Roger Blair (USN, Retired) discussed the history of Veteran's Day, and, with the help of students, did a reading of "The Watch."

For the cake cutting, the oldest veteran, Lewis Richards, joined the youngest active service person, Ann Montgomery, using a ceremonial military sword.
