Virginia College in Baton Rouge praised for economic development

Apr 6, 2011

The Virginia College campus in Baton Rouge will be an economic boost for the city, according to a city official attending a March 24 grand opening ceremony and open house for the new facility.

District Six Councilwoman Donna Collins-Lewis said she's excited about the economic development potential of the career college. As Louisiana's first Virginia College location, the initial campus investment was about $5 million. In addition to elevating the education level and employability if area residents, the college will employ between 100 and 200 employees and is designed to serve 1000 and 1200 students on a daily basis. Similar new campuses usually attract new retail development in the area to serve the students and employees.

Speakers at the event included Chuck Trierweiler, Chief Marketing Officer; Jason Mann, VP Marketing; and Mike Williams, EVP Human Resources. Scott Rogers, anchor of Baton Rouge's Around Town television show, also made remarks.
