Break 'n Bread Big Success

Oct 18, 2011

American Idol winner Taylor Hicks hung out with some of the Culinard students who participated in the recent Break 'n Bread festival held at Birmingham's Railroad Park. But there was no loafing for the aspiring chefs at the state's largest food and wine festival. They assisted Chef Anthony Osborne (an officer with Birmingham Originals, the nonprofit organization that hosts the annual event) and other chef instructors prepare and serve delicious samples to the record number of attendees--more than double last year's crowd.

More than 80 Virginia College students and staff helped at the event from programs including Associate Degree in Nursing, Therapeutic Massage, Cosmetology, Medical Assistant, and, of course, Culinary.

Virginia College and Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College were event sponsors. Proceeds benefit Children's of Alabama, the only medical center in Alabama dedicated solely to the care and treatment of children.
