The Student Affairs team for the online programs of Virginia College recently held the second installment of its quarterly community service initiative, "Student Affairs Cares."

Rita Chubick, VP for Academic Operations, joined the Student Affairs management team and advisors in two projects: cooking and serving hot meals at Birmingham's Firehouse Shelter for men and reading to K–2 students at Glen Iris Elementary School in Birmingham.

Each volunteer received a certificate of appreciation from the Glen Iris Elementary staff and each student received a book donated by Virginia College.

Augusta: Students and staff from the Medical Assistant and Medical Office Management programs recently participated in the annual Miracle Mile Walk. This event helps raise funds to provide life–saving screening mammograms and other services for underinsured and uninsured women of Augusta through the Breast Health Center of University Hospital. The students also raised money by selling pink ribbons and baked goods on campus.

Speaking of the online division, several of its staff joined other ECA team members for the recent Susan G. Komen Walk for a Cure in Birmingham. An estimated 16,000 walkers participated.
