Philosopher Lao Tzu said, "The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."

Recently, Miami native Bernardo Burrell took the first step in his career journey at the new Knoxville campus.

As the first enrollee, Mr. Burrell helped the campus take their first step toward an ultimate capacity of about 800 students. Initial classes begin April 4, 2012.

Mr. Burrell discovered Virginia College School of Business and Health in Knoxville from his online research. He enjoyed his campus visit with Admissions Associate Jennifer Jarnigan, who subsequently enrolled him.

"Everyone I met and the environment was really friendly. Jennifer gave me prices, options and suggestions and I decided to enroll in the Medical Assistant program. When I was a kid, I used to play doctor, and I just want to better myself," he says.

"When I visited, everybody was a lot of help," Mr. Burrell said. "I've looked at a few schools and Virginia College seems to be the best about helping people get a higher education and a career. "
