Virginia College in Jackson holds pinning ceremony for nursing grads
Mar 21, 2012
Over two dozen students in the Practical Nursing program at Virginia College in Jackson recently participated in a pinning ceremony to celebrate the completion of their program. While the event was a first, the custom dates back to 1860 when Florence Nightingale pinned student nurses in London.
Campus President Milton Anderson presided and a keynote address was provided by WAPT-TV anchor Andrew Kinsey. Instructor Alberta Johnson called the ceremony, "an important and meaningful rite of passage into the profession of nursing."
After successfully completing the program, these students are qualified to take the licensure exam to qualify to become Licensed Practical Nurses.
