On the road with the Career Services team
Apr 30, 2012
Developing strategic relationships with national employers is an ongoing process for Education Corporation of America (ECA) SVP Scot Stapleton and his Career Services team.
And there's no end to the benefit this process provides graduates of ECA schools.
Recently Mr. Stapleton had a successful visit with the Publix Pharmacy Operations and Culinary Operations staff at its corporate office in Lakeland, Fla. He was accompanied by Karen Davis, Allied Health Program Specialist, and Josh Lourie, National Account Executive.
The visit was scheduled as part of a national partnership recently executed with Publix for both Pharmacy Tech and Culinary students in the growing Virginia College system. The agreements allow Virginia College Pharmacy Tech and Culinary students to complete externships in Publix facilities.
Sherri Gordon, Publix's Pharmacy Operations Recruiter, and Dan Kammeraad, Culinary Recruiter, coordinated a day that included a tour of the bakery plant, as well as meetings and presentations at the corporate office.
Virginia College campuses in South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama that have received ASHP programmatic accreditation and have completed a site visit with the Publix District Manager are now eligible to send students for externships. In addition, all Culinard students can now be placed in a Publix externship position on the deli, prepared foods, decorator, or meat and seafood departments in these states.

The ECA Career Services team recently exhibited at the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) national conference, providing the opportunity to network with many national, regional, and local employers. This will lead to a number of externship and placement opportunities for students and graduates from the Medical Billing and Coding and Healthcare Reimbursement programs.
