UAB and Culinard host classes on cooking for cancer patients

Birmingham's Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College will be the site for a series of cooking classes for cancer patients and their families.

The classes, co-sponsored by the UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center, Virginia College and Cooking with Cancer, Inc., will teach simple recipes designed to re-awaken taste buds and appetites that often languish because of cancer's affects.

Luis Pineda, MD, UAB and Culinard alumnus, and Chef Jared Danks, Program Director for the Culinary and Pastry programs at Virginia College in Birmingham, will provide an evening of cooking demonstrations and tastings in the professional kitchens of Culinard. The free classes will be held Jan. 17, March 21, May 16, July 18, Sept. 19 and Nov. 14, 2013, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
