Virginia College: Career Services teams at work
Mar 7, 2013
Dana Burge, Area Director of Career Placement, reported that 70 students at Virginia College in Birmingham attended the "Do What You Love" Career Services event. The successful event included a panel discussion with successful employers who started off in entry-level roles—like many of our graduates. Panelists answered questions about moving up the career ladder and what they look for in job candidates.
The panel included:
- Kelly Richards, Director of Women's Surgical Services, Brookwood Hospital Women's Center (former Surgical Tech)
- Dr. Angie McGraw, Pharmacist, Middle Tennessee Medical Center (former Pharmacy Technician)
- Maureen Clean, Registered Nurse, MiBella Wellness Center (former Medical Assistant)
- Rolando Russell, President, Claim Dx (former Hospital Billing Rep)
"Kudos to Brittney Newton for the awesome idea and the entire Birmingham Career Services and Academic teams for making this event a success," said Ms. Burge.
Macon: Campus President David Murray (pictured above) recently welcomed over 50 Middle Georgia Employer Committee members to the Macon campus.
Virginia College in Macon will host the group six times per year as it has outgrown the space provided at the Georgia Department of Labor Career Center in Macon, reports Mark Suttle, Career and Market Development Manager. After the recent meeting many members toured the campus, learned about our educational programs and the partnerships we are building with the business and healthcare communities.
Employer Committees are groups of local business representatives who establish and maintain a working relationship between the employer community and the Georgia Department of Labor.
