Pensacola dean raises funds for March of Dimes
Oct 11, 2013
The students, faculty, staff and friends of Virginia College in Pensacola recently supported their dean, Donald Cockroft, in the Men in Labor campaign for the March of Dimes. The Men in Labor fundraising event is a spin-off of the March of Dimes' Jail and Bail event. Participants in the campaign endured a six-week "pregnancy" with three main events representing the three trimesters of pregnancy. A special fundraising "baby shower" was also held on campus. Other fundraising events at the school included breakfast and lunch meals, "Dunk Your Program Director in the Dunk Tank," a yard sale and excess change collection. The event culminated with the "delivery date" where it was revealed Dean Cockroft had raised $1,538.21 toward a grand total of $14,698.31 for the March of Dimes.
The nursing department made a maternity gown for Dean Cockroft to wear for the grand finale of the event. The gown was emblazoned with the logo of the Blue Wahoos, Pensacola's baseball team, for a trip to the stadium that night.
