Culinard Hosts Regional Culinary Competition March 27

High school culinary students to compete for scholarships, top honors at SkillsUSA competition

GREENVILLE, S.C. — March 26, 2015 — Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College in Greenville, is pleased to announce that it will host the SkillsUSA Regional Culinary Competition on Friday, March 27, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its campus located at 68 Global Drive. High school culinary students from South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia will have the opportunity to participate in culinary, baking and pastry and food and beverage competitions during the one-day event, which will allow them to showcase skills they have acquired in the classroom.

"We are delighted to host the SkillsUSA Regional Culinary Competition again at Culinard this year as more than 50 of the region's young culinarians test their culinary skills and competencies for professional development and growth," says Chef Mark Bergstrom, Culinard program director. "With the assistance of educators, both in the schools and on the job, these students are receiving practical experience in the food service industry and ultimately kick starting their careers."

Teams of students will compete in three categories including Baking, Culinary and Restaurant Services for scholarships, prizes and top honors for the school. Culinard has provided a $2,250 scholarship for the winner of each category.

SkillsUSA hosts similar competitions nationwide across a wide range of industries. From technical occupations to service occupations, SkillsUSA works with students, teachers and industry to advance the skills and future careers of America's burgeoning workforce.
