Virginia College named Bossier City Chamber Business Partner of Year
Apr 7, 2015
As a business leader, Melody Rider's philosophy is that when you are dedicated to your community and assist other local businesses, everyone succeeds. Ms. Rider's leadership-by-example at Virginia College in Shreveport/Bossier City, where she is campus president, recently led to the school being named Bossier City's Chamber Business Partner of the Year. In the photo above, she accepts the award on behalf of Virginia College, whose community service includes these examples:
- Since opening, the campus has opened its doors to over 40 businesses to conduct meetings, training sessions and other events. For example, when Margaritaville Resort Casino opened, the school assisted them in training over 200 employees. CVS utilizes the campus each month to train its employees, bolstering job placement relationships for Virginia College graduates.
- The school helps with various Chamber events and supports the Military Affairs committee.
- Ms. Rider was voted one of the top ten Diplomats for the Bossier Chamber in 2014 and serves as a Commissioner for the Commission for Women.
- She was also selected as a team captain for Bossier City Chamber's first Total Resource Champaign. The team of business leaders came in second place overall in support of 2015 Chamber events.
Ms. Rider credits her Virginia College team of staff, instructors and students for the Chamber award." I thank them for always having open arms and a warm welcome when community leaders come to our campus. Their hospitality and commitment to our community has made us successful!"
