Rockland Trust CEO Chris Oddleifson and Boston Globe Columnist Shirley Leung to receive Honorary Degrees at 2015 Commencement

BOSTON — April 30, 2015 — New England College of Business, a leading institution of online education designed for working adults seeking career advancement, today announced Chris Oddleifson, CEO of Rockland Trust, and Shirley Leung, columnist for The Boston Globe, will receive Honorary Doctor of Commerce degrees at commencement. Oddleifson will deliver the school's commencement address on Saturday, May 9, at the Back Bay Events Center in Boston. Leung will be the college's first recipient of the Distinguished Community Service Award, recognizing her contributions to the field of business journalism.

The ceremony will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and the reception for graduates and their families will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. On Friday, May 8, graduates can enjoy an Alumni Association Reception at the Revere Hotel Emerald Lounge from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

"Chris has been a leader and an innovator throughout his career, and I look forward to the insight he will provide as commencement speaker," said Howard E. Horton, President of New England College of Business. "Both Chris and Shirley, who has made significant contributions to the field of business journalism, are a fitting inspiration to our graduates as they pursue their career goals."

Aside from his position at Rockland Trust, Oddleifson is Chairman of the Massachusetts Housing Partnership, Vice-Chairman of the South Shore Hospital, and immediate Past Chairman and member of the Campaign Cabinet of the United Way of Greater Plymouth County Campaign. Oddleifson received his bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree in Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Leung is a business columnist for The Boston Globe. Previously, Leung served as editor of the Globe's business section, the Sunday "Money & Careers" section and the real estate section. Under her leadership, the Society of American Business Editors and Writers named the Globe's business section one of the best in the country. Leung is a graduate of Princeton University, and is a board member and former president of the New England chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association.
