Aspiring student chefs from Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College, learned techniques from world-famous chefs Joan and Jordi Roca (pictured above, flanking Chef Antony Osborne, National Dean of Culinary and Hospitality) and sommelier Josep Roca at a recent event on the Birmingham campus.
The Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca, which landed the top spot on Restaurant magazine's influential World's 50 Best Restaurants list in 2013 and 2015, taught a master cooking class for culinary and pastry arts students at Virginia College as part of the brothers' 2015 BBVA El Celler de Can Roca Tour.
Chef Joan Roca is known for his ground-breaking sous-vide cooking technique, Chef Jordi Roca for his whimsical and creative desserts and Josep Roca for his unorthodox wine pairings.
The U.S. leg of their second BBVA-sponsored culinary tour kicked off in Miami. While in Birmingham, the trio recreated their Girona, Spain-based restaurant experience over the course of two nights during private events for BBVA Compass clients.
